Flamingo Specimen

Flamingos are a type of wading bird classified in the in the Class Aves of the Phylum Chordata. These are placed in the order Phoenicopteriformes. They belong to the genus Phoenicopterus which is the only genus in the family Phoenicopteridae. There are 6 species of this genus.
Flamingos often stand on one leg, the other leg tucked beneath the body. It is suggested that this help them to conserve body heat.
